Welcome Welcome. The Grand Strand Model Railroaders, Inc. exists to further the hobby of model railroading. The club was founded in 1986 above Ed's Hobby Shop in downtown Myrtle Beach, SC with six members. The club is now celebrating its twenty-fifth year. We have grown to nearly fifty members who form a diverse group that share their knowledge with each other and visitors. The club is now building three new layouts: HO, N, and O scales at our new home. Come and visit us at our new location inside the Myrtle Beach Mall right next to Bass Pro. Photo Contest Winner Congratulations to Ed Sharrat for winning the 2012 GSMRRC Summer Photo Contest. The photo was taken at Omaha, Neb. June 16, 2012. The engine is Union Pacific's #844, wheel arrangement 4-8-4 and has been continuous operation since 1944. It was brought in for the College World Series baseball games with fans. When we left the 1st game we were parked behind the engine and it was lite up for for the fans. I used an Nikon Coolpix P510 digital camera on auto focus with a 42X wide optical zoom len. A big draw, kids both old and young alike love to watch the big boys. There are plenty of interactive controls to let the little ones operate many animated railroad cars and buildings during their visit to the club. You will often see locomotives and rolling stock dating back over 50 years still chugging around the layout. More O Scale Pictures Grand Strand Western (GSW) The Grand Strand Western is the name of our club railroad and was chosen as a freelance railroad centered in the Carolinas. The club layouts are currently in design and construction at our new location in the Myrtle Beach Mall. The GSW has trackage rights to all US railroads so you will see a mixture of equipment in operation. Our new layouts will be running both steam and diesel equipment.
